Brain Fitness Program

Memory, problem solving, attention, and processing speed are some of the cognitive functions that can decline with age. As we grow older, leave school, and retire, we are no longer learning new material and stimulating the brain. The brain, similar to a muscle, needs to be used or it will not function optimally. Eating a healthy diet and exercising are some of the ways to maintain a healthy brain. But the brain is also remarkably nimble and new connections can be created regardless of age. Brain Fitness works to engage the brain in innovative ways in a variety of cognitive areas and can help create new connections between neurons and increase mental acuity. Diversifying the cerebral activities in which you engage is key to your overall brain health.

Respite Australia Care Home Companion Program provides at-home support services for people with Dementia, Hearing and Visual impairment, Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Heart Attack and Stroke. RAC can also provide hospice support as well as respite for immediate family caregivers.

All aides are required to complete a seven week training course, developed by a licensed social worker, and receive certification. All companions’ references are checked, including a criminal background check and a satisfactory health screening.

Why You Need a Break

When your child has special needs, handing over responsibility can be a real challenge. You might feel as if you are the only person who can do the job, and doubt that anyone else could meet all of your child’s needs. But remember, you’re not superhuman. There’s only so much you can give before you will feel mentally, emotionally, and physically drained. That’s why it’s a necessity — not a luxury — to take breaks from time to time.

Why people choose us

In- Home Respite

In-home respite care gives carers access to some downtime and a break from their everyday role so they can attend to personal business and look after themselves for a certain amount of time.

Client care strategy development

Our new way of supporting disabled people is needed, focused on the goal of independent living. Over time, this new approach should bring together existing funding streams that are currently fragmented, and which require disabled people to go through multiple assessments in order to access different forms of support.

Respite Australia Care Brain Fitness program targets a variety of cognitive areas to help stimulate the brain.

  • Stimulate your brain power
  • Diversify your mental workout
  • Learn about your brain and how it functions
  • Engage in fun activities while you stretch your mind.

Cognitive areas addressed:

  • Memory
  • Visual-spatial
  • Organisational
  • Attention
  • Language
  • Logic
  • Perception
  • Problem solving and reasoning
PRIVATE/SEMI PRIVATE SESSIONS

Private or semi private (2-3 people) sessions are available. Tailor your sessions to the cognitive areas that you want to work on. We aim to provide a meaningful experience for clients and families by focusing on insight, inspiring confidence, and providing practical support that directly aligns with their personal experience and goals.

These interactive programs, engage the mind in thoughtful ways. Word play, puzzles, memory games, and problem-solving activities can enhance your brain power and are fun ways to challenge yourself. Strategies for improving your skills are also discussed during these sessions, and participants share which techniques they find most effective. Finding multiple ways to problem solve and approach tasks improves mental flexibility as well. The sessions are designed for a range of ages and abilities which can be adjusted based on the participants.

Resilience and recovery

Resiliency and recovery:

When children, youth and families face poverty and disaster, a better future can be built, in which psychological services and science must have a critical role.
Promoting positive mental health

Promoting Positive Mental Health Among Racial/Ethnic Minority Children:

Ensuring and Enhancing Services, Programs, and Resources One way to think of the mental health of children is that it’s like the levelness of a piece of furniture, such as a table. And that levelness can depend on the table, the floor it’s on, or both. Just as levelness allows a table to function properly, the mental health of a child enables the child to function well in many different areas. Some children’s brains develop in the context of healthy, supportive relationships, with access to things like good nutrition and health care (level floors). For other children, their brains develop in an environment of toxic stress without access to key services, programs, and resources (uneven floors). And children’s brains, like tables, can’t make themselves level; they need access to services, programs, and resources that address levelness and stability. Presently, not all children are connected to high-quality services,

Programs for the Kids

Deliver Programs to Buffer Against Disadvantages in Socioeconomic Status A significant percentage of racial/ethnic minority youths live in disadvantaged neighborhoods or homes with low family socioeconomic status. Programs that directly improve the socioeconomic status of families or address neighborhood stressors that exist in disadvantaged neighborhoods, such as violence or poorer quality education or housing, can promote positive mental health in youth. High-quality early childhood programs, mental health consultation for early childhood programs, and school-based mental health services are examples of such programs.

We Implement programs

Implement Programs That Support Positive Family Functioning:

Increase the number of parent education programs to buffer the effects of childhood adversities. Childhood adversities can have more impact on racial/ethnic minority youths. A large body of research demonstrates the effectiveness of parent education programs to protect against childhood adversities and improve children’s mental health. Components of effective parent education programs for racial/ethnic minority youth, including African American, Hispanic/Latino(a), Native Australian, and Asian youth, consist of:* — Written materials that have been translated into native languages —  staff and clinicians or translators when content is presented in English — Cultural competency training specific to race/ethnicity for staff and clinicians — Program content that includes culture-specific examples, vignettes, and visuals — Involvement of respected community agencies and trusted cultural brokers — Follow-up to provide support, reinforce information learned, and clarify any misunderstandings.
